Plaque unveiled at Metro crash site on 3-year anniversary

WASHINGTON -

It has been three years since a terrible accident on Metrorail that claimed the lives of nine people. On Friday, a plaque was unveiled on the bridge that crosses over the accident site to honor the victims.

Local leaders, Metro officials and family members of the victims were at the ceremony. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray spoke about the loss of each of the individuals on the train that warm June day in 2009.

An investigation determined an electronic sensor was not working properly and that caused two trains to collide near the Fort Totten station.

Along with the nine people who were killed, 80 others were injured in the accident.
