WASHINGTON -

The extreme heat wave that is making its way across the area has prompted Metro to temporarily lift its ‘no drinking' policy.

Metro riders will be allowed to carry and drink water onboard all buses and trains, and inside stations, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures in the upper 90s are expected and the heat index could reach 105.

Metro says the policy applies to water only and will remain in effect through closing on Thursday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon Wednesday through 10 p.m.
