Barricade in southeast DC ends after several hours

WASHINGTON -

A police standoff that began after a man was shot in southeast Washington has ended with a suspect in custody.

Police say the victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1700 block of 17th Street about 2 a.m. Wednesday. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A SWAT team had been stationed outside the home and several streets in the area were closed during the standoff.

But police say the standoff is now over, and a suspect is in custody.
