CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Chicago Inspector General Joe Ferguson joined FOX Chicago Sunday to speak on the reinstatement of firefighters he fired or suspended last year.
Last year, Chicago's inspector general recommended the termination of 54 firefighters in the Fire Prevention Bureau, after an investigation found they were ripping off taxpayers by lying about their mileage to get bigger reimbursement checks.
Then-Fire Commissioner Robert Hoff decided to fire four of the workers and gave lengthy suspensions to the others.
An arbitrator has now ruled that even that is too harsh. The arbitrator reinstated those fired and cut most of the suspensions in half.
Ferguson wrote a sharply-worded response to that arbitrator's decision.
