A wild ride for a kid on his way home from school in Fort Washington. He wound up alone, locked in a hot bus, at 63rd in Jefferson, with no idea how he got there.
She is angry and she should be. We often talk about how one of the worse calls a parent can get.
And now this child, who goes to a special needs school year round, says he wants to go back but not on a bus.
Aarie Anderson's heart raced when her son called her from his cell phone just after 10 Monday morning.
Mom thought her 11 year old son Jahmir was in school. The bus picked him up around 7:15 at his West Philadelphia home. So she had no idea that for nearly three hours he was asleep, on his school bus, left parked at the corner of 63rd and Jefferson in West Philadelphia.
Jahmir goes to Wordsworth a private school in Montgomery County. He lives within in Philadelphia city limits, so the Philadelphia school district provides transportation they contract with Durham School services.
His mom says the bus driver or aide couldn't have checked the bus at the end of the route because her son sits just three rows from the front.
Aarie was worried even more because Jahmir takes medicine three times a day for ADHD and bipolar disorder.
She fears what could have happened when he stepped off the bus in an unfamiliar neighborhood.
Durham school bus services say they have a zero tolerance policy and their investigation should be wrapped up tomorrow.
In the meantime the school district says the driver and aide will no longer drive for them and they've fined the company $1000.
No word yet on where the bus driver and aide were, and why the bus was parked where it was.
