University of Virginia President resigns - DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

Gov. Bob McDonnell is extending his gratitude to University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan forher short tenure.

McDonnell issued his statement Sunday less than two hoursafter U.Va.'s Board of Visitors announced Sullivan's departure. Sullivan andthe board cast the decision as mutual.

Sullivan was inaugurated as U.Va.'s first woman president in2010.

McDonnell credited Sullivan with fulfilling her duties with"honor, energy and good stewardship."

Sullivan's resignation is effective Aug. 15.
