Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.)
LOS ANGELES -
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) served as inspiration for the plot in the upcoming season of HBO's popular vampire series "True Blood," show creator Alan Ball told Entertainment Weekly.
Ball said the former GOP presidential candidate's deep religious beliefs inspired him to create a group of extremist vampires, called the Sanguinistas, who believe humans were created by God only to serve as food.
In season five of the show, which premieres Sunday, a conflict breaks out between a group of forward-thinking vampires, headed by Roman Zimojic-(played by actor Christopher Meloni) and the Sanguinistas.
"My first instinct about going into religion and politics was from watching Michele Bachmann, who thinks she has a direct line to God," Ball said.
"What would happen if she became president? A lot of right-wingers would like to see a theocracy in America. From there we thought, 'What would a vampire theocracy be and how would you justify it? What kind of impact would it have on humans?'" he continued.
Season five of the drama, starring Stephen Moyer and-Anna Paquin, premieres June 10 on HBO at 9pm ET.
