Detroit 300 is doing what it does best.
"That's being out here, going up to the doors, shaking neighbors' hands, going to the alleys, going to vacant homes, this is what we do," said Raphael Johnson.
The group and its volunteers are on the hunt for a man who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl while she was on her way to school around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police say the girl was walking to the bus stop in the area of East Seven Mile and Faircrest near Hayes when a man walked up, pulled out a gun, dragged her to an alley and raped her.
Detroit 300 scoured the streets where her rapist was last seen, passing out flyers and searching alleys and abandoned houses.
"He's a creep. There was a report that was made about him on May the twelfth. The neighbors say they saw him lurking around. That was ten days before he committed the rape on the young girl," Johnson said.
Then a hit. Some information from a young man who just saw the 21-year-old suspect and knows where he hangs out. Every detail, any piece of information is getting investigators and this group one step closer to catching the young girl's attacker.
Shyneika Lyte wishes more people stepped up and did the right thing. Her brother was shot and killed in Detroit less than 24 hours ago.
"Shot in the head. All he did was open the door," she said. "That's what we need. We need more people to stick up, stop being scared because it's going to be your family."
"We're going to be here everyday until he [is] caught," Johnson told us.
We're told Detroit 300 got seven solid tips Wednesday night, four of them with the same name and description of this suspect. They plan to hand all that information over to police.
