Marion Barry praises Filipino nurses after health scare

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

D.C. Councilman Marion Barry says he's recovering from a blood clot he received while waiting on a plane over the weekend in Las Vegas.

He wrote on Twitter that it was caught and he's taking blood thinners.

He also used the opportunity to make amends with Asian nurses whom he offended recently, writing, "I also thank outstanding medical staff, including kind professional Filipino staff. I stand corrected; I truly didn't mean to hurt or offend."

In April he was criticized for saying we should, quote, "Grow our own nurses" instead of hiring people from somewhere else.

Barry tweeted a picture of himself with his nurse.

Nurse Deanna who initially was a little "frustrated" w/me(ok I was a little grouchy) now she's my best friend here!TU! http://pic.twitter.com/HT5OByLg

Barry has been released from the hospital.
