Young boy told mother kids at Redford school played 'sex game'

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Parents say they are stunned to learn what has been happening in the boy's restroom at Washington-Parks Academy on Appleton in Redford.  The parents say their kindergarten students ages five and six described this activity in the boy's room ...

"He told me about the game that they [were] having, which was called the 'sex game,' and he told me that him and some other children there [were] engaging in this adult sexual conduct," a mother told us.

She also said her son described a boy, a student of similar age, five or six, directing a game of nudity below the waist and inappropriate touching.  She said it occurred in November and the school told her that her boy was making it all up.

"I went to the school, had a meeting with the principal.  They assured me, matter of fact they basically said my son was lying," she explained.  "Incident occurred again in December.  I requested a meeting with the parents of the children.  They said that they contacted all the parents that [were] involved.  The young boy, that name kept coming in the situation.  We sat down in a meeting.  I told them I was taking my son out of the school.  They basically said the matter was resolved."

But now there has been an email from the school to some parents.  "Last Friday, there was an incident involving a few students in the K1 class that may have included some inappropriate behavior in the restroom.  The Academy responded immediately to investigate the matter thoroughly and took appropriate action in response," said principal Scott Cairo.

Parents told FOX 2 they filed a police report.  The parents are not clear how many boys are orchestrating this behavior.

We spoke with the school principal.  He indicated there was a bathroom incident in December and another one last week.  He said the school does have an adult supervising the restrooms.

An attorney advising one of the mothers said the school is not providing enough answers.

"They're very emotional about this issue because these are the people that we should be protecting, the young people in society.  So, it's really just to find out what is going on, the gravity of the situation, and then stopping it," said Todd Russell Perkins.

The parents are demanding an explanation.  They want to know what the school knows, what has been happening in the restroom.  We will continue to investigate.
