D.C. Councilmember Kwame Brown says it is time to take a serious look at tickets and other fees that are being handed out by the District.
"At some point, we got to stop ticketing our residents for everything," says Brown. "We might get a ticket when we walk out the door right now."
Brown says he hears from residents all the time about the amount of fees.
Speed and red light cameras have received a lot of attention recently from angry motorists. Residents in many parts of the city have complained about too many cameras and many believe the amount of each fine is too high.
Fees charged by the District raise millions of dollars to support the local budget. Brown says he is concerned residents think the D.C. government is trying to gouge them.
"Everyone said we didn't raise taxes, but we doubled and tripled all the fees, and people are just tired of these huge fees, and it's time to reduce them. We didn't do it to stop some of this stuff, we did it to raise money," says Brown.

It's a rare treat when Fred Gray is in Washington. Who is Fred Gray, you ask? He's an 82-year-old, still-practicing attorney from Tuskegee, Ala., who happened to represent the likes of Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the start of the civil rights movement.
