Ask Allison: Parental infidelity

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

It is time for another Ask Allison question!

Today's question is about infidelity.

A viewer writes, "I am 36-years-old with four sisters and one brother. Between us we have 14 children. We are a very close family. We recently found out that my father is having an affair after 17 years of marriage. His new girlfriend is my age. My stepmother was devastated and so were we. My father acts like we shouldn't be affected because we're adults but we're hurting because we see my mother hurt. We've watched our dad turn from a loving, caring, considerate provider into a lying, defensive person. We would like for him to leave, but he wants the house that they own together. I don't want to lose my father forever, but I can't let him do this.
