$1M Bond Set for Suspect in Tucson Imam Killing

Posted:

A judge has set a $1 million bond for a man accused of killing an Arizona imam more than 21 years ago.

Glen Cusford Francis appeared before a Tucson magistrate Friday. His arraignment is scheduled for July 5 in Pima County Superior Court.

The 54-year-old Francis wasn't arrested in the case until April 2009 when he was located in Canada living under an assumed name. A Canadian court didn't clear him for extradition until late last year.

Authorities say Rashad Khalifa was fatally stabbed in the kitchen of his East Sixth Street mosque on Jan. 31, 1990.

The 54-year-old Khalifa had received several written and verbal threats prior to his death because of the way he translated the Koran.
