Child Stops Breathing at Valley Motel

Phoenix police are still trying to sort out why a child at a Motel 6 stopped breathing.

Police were called to the motel near Interstate 17 and Northern Ave Sunday morning.

When they arrived, they found a 2-year-old child in need of help.

The toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital. According to police, the child was found with methadone in his system once he arrived at the hospital. The methadone was given orally to the child, as he was complaining of pain to his gums and teeth, police say.

Police questioned people at the motel, but at this time, no arrests have been made.

Monday, the child is doing better, but it's not clear if there will be any long-term effects to his health.

Two of the toddlers' siblings were transferred into the care of Child Protective Services.

The investigation is ongoing.
