There are new developments tonight surrounding a valley mom who allegedly gave her 2-year-old son methadone.
Police say Jennifer Campos gave her son the drugs because his teeth and gums were hurting.
The boy ended up in the hospital, and we've learned this isn't mom's first run-in with police.
She hasn't been arrested for the methadone incident -- but according to court records, she was on the run, hiding from CPS, who was trying to take custody of her kids.
Jennifer Campos was arrested for outstanding warrants Sunday after her 2-year-old son was rushed to the hospital. Police say he was given methadone because he was complaining of a toothache. Methadone is a pain killer given to people addicted to heroin.
"They decided to provide methadone to this child orally, that is what caused this child to stop breathing and he was rushed to the hospital," says Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.
Court records show Campos had a couple of warrants for shoplifting and failure to appear. She was living in this motel with her kids so CPS wouldn't take her kids away.
"We understand that she may have taken these children away from where they were originally living and was in hiding."
Campos and several others were inside the motel at the time the boy stopped breathing. The investigation is ongoing.
The 2-year-old is expected to pull through.
