Metro Hits, Kills Man at Cheverly Station

Prince George's County authorities say a man struck by a train at the Cheverly Metro station has died.

County fire and EMS department spokesman Mark Brady says crews were called just before 11 a.m. to the Metro stop at 5501 Columbia Park Road in Cheverly. Brady says the man was trapped under the train and in between the train and the platform.

Power on the tracks was shut down and crews rescued the man, who died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation, Metro says, indicates the man was on the tracks intentionally.

Metro says the Cheverly station has reopened after being closed for a few hours. Metro Transit Police are investigating the incident.
