Court to Hold Hearing Over Demotion of DC Officer Who Escorted Charlie Sheen

Posted:

Attorneys for the former commander of a District of Columbia police division that provided a police escort to actor Charlie Sheen are challenging the officer's demotion in court.

The Washington Times reports that attorneys for Capt. Hilton Burton are set to argue Thursday in the D.C. Court of Appeals that he was demoted in violation of his due process rights.

Earlier this year, Burton said he believed his demotion was in response to his June appearance before the D.C. Council, in which he said police escorts were routinely provided for celebrities visiting Washington. The testimony contradicted statements by Police Chief Cathy Lanier, who said a police escort from Dulles International Airport for Sheen in April violated department policy and that escorts weren't generally intended for celebrities.
