That's My Take: We Deserve Better

Posted:

FOX 5's Vice President and General Manager Duffy Dyer gives his take on issues in the DC Region.

We Deserve Better

The people here at Fox 5 along with more than 5 million residents in the Washington DC metropolitan area are hardworking, civic minded people. We pay our taxes, push for better schools and vote – hoping for a more responsive government. All of us want to see our children grow up to be solid citizens who have been taught to give back to their communities.

Yet, citizens of this region are often let down by their elected and appointed officials. Fox 5 News has told countless stories over the years about elected and appointed officials who have chosen to ignore the law or have enriched themselves at the expense of the people they serve. And when some of them are caught breaking or bending the law, they adopt the strategy of hunkering down, weathering the storm, hoping the media will get bored and move on to other stories.

No so for Fox 5 News. We will continue our efforts to shine a bright light on the unlawful and unethical actions of our elected and appointed officials. Also, in the weeks and months ahead, we will single out situations that we believe warrant even greater scrutiny. In commentaries like this one, we will point them out to you so that you have a clear picture as to the facts involved.

The people of the Washington, DC area deserve the best from our officials. But we won’t get their best unless we first understand who is not living up to our well deserved expectations.
