Prayer Vigil Held For Brandywine Crash Victims

Posted:

Two families, the Garners and the Mitchells, were surrounded by friends and family members, honoring the life of 18-year-old Lawrence Garner Jr. and praying for the recovery of Robert Mitchell.

"I just want everybody to come out and share their condolences,” said Mitchell’s twin brother, Rodrick. “Give the Garner family love, give my brother love. Just show everybody that we care.”

“It hurts very much so because I don't know everything. I don't know why," said Lawrence Garner Sr.

Garner and Mitchell were on their way home Monday after a pickup basketball game. When they got to North Keys Road in Brandywine, police say their Hyundai Sonata was hit by an FBI agent’s vehicle that veered across the center line.

"I have his clothes on, I have his chain, his bracelet that he wore everyday. It's just hard," said Keysha Garner, Lawrence’s older sister. "Nothing is going to really bring my brother back."

Mitchell survived the crash, but he is in the hospital struggling for his life.

Police did say speed and alcohol were factors in the fatal crash, but the FBI agent has not been charged.
