Chicago's Most Wanted Homewood Bank Robbery Getaway Driver

Posted:

A bank robbery on Election Day was a "worst case scenario" for police in south suburban Homewood. They say two robbers fired shots at them when they arrived at the U.S. Bank branch located at 183rd street and Kedzie just before noon. Investigators say a passerby notice the theft in progress and called 911. Rather than surrender, police say the robbers fired their guns at them as they tried to escape on foot. One of the robbers was wounded during the shootout and taken to the hospital for treatment.

While these two suspects were arrested, police and FBI agents are now looking for a third robber. They believe this suspect served as a lookout and get-away driver for the group. They also say he took off when the shootout began outside the bank. However they know little about this suspect and the getaway car since neither was caught on tape. Witnesses described the driver to police only as a black male. Agents believe the get-away vehicle was a light blue van with Illinois plates.

Before police were called to the scene, agents say two of the robbers entered the bank brandishing guns and ordered bank employees and customers to the floor. While one suspect stood guard in the lobby, investigators say the second robber went behind counter and cleaned out a few teller drawers before forcing bank employees to take him to vault.

Agents also say the November second robbery isn’t the first time this bank was knocked over. They believe the same crew may have tried to rob this same bank back on august 17th. That’s when two robbers, dressed in black and armed with similar weapons, confronted two employees as they were opening the bank. A third employee was inside, saw what was happening, and hit alarm.

A ten-thousand dollar reward is being offered for any tips leading to the arrest of this getaway car driver. If you have any information regarding this case, call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
