Law Enforcement Still Searching for Gang Enforcer Leonard Soberanis

Posted:

Though Leonard Soberanis is rather small in stature, the feds say he's a tough-guy in a South American drug operation and is now one of Chicago's most wanted men.

Soberanis was a member of the Belizian Bloods, a gang that was charged with moving kilos of powder and crack cocaine into Chicago and Evanston.

Soberanis' role was an enforcer in the organization, meaning he would provide security during drug transactions and collected money from drug customers.

The group was targeted as part of "Operation Blood Hound," which was investigating the Bloods for narcotics trafficking and passport fraud.

In that operation, the Belizian Bloods were led to believe that members of a Mexican drug cartel were moving about 50 kilos of cocaine from a stash house in Berwyn. They planned to intercept the drugs and if necessary kill three members of the Mexican organization to get the drugs. In reality, the Bloods were dealing with undercover agents.

Agents, working with other federal and state law enforcement agencies fanned out to make a serious of arrests, but Soberanis was one of just two gang members who avoided capture.

Soberanis is now the subject of a nationwide manhunt which is being coordinated here in Chicago by the Joint Task Force on Gangs. He has friends and family living in both Evanston and Chicago, who could be aiding his flight from justice.

Here now is a description of what the FBI says Leonard Soberanis looks like:

  • He is a black male.
  • 28 years old.
  • He's just 5'3" tall, 135 pounds.
  • He goes by the name Q-Tip or Tip, and has numerous aliases.
  • He has a tattoo of a bulldog on his right arm as well as praying hands.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, call police.
