Ask Dr. Oz: Bursitis

Posted:

Audience member Laura tells Dr. Oz that she has bursitis in both of her shoulders and an extra cervical rib. Bursitis is the inflammation of bursae sacs (small sacs of fluid that rest at the points where muscles and tendons slide across the bone).

Bursitis symptoms vary from joint pain and stiffness, to burning pain surrounding the inflamed area. Laura also has concerns about a build-up of tissue around her arms and back.

Dr. Oz examines the noted area and discovers the tissue Laura mentioned is actually fat!

Dr. Oz states that when we get older, we build-up tissues in certain areas. When there is discomfort in these areas, Dr. Oz notes that people don’t move their joints as much. Fat builds around these areas that lack movement. Dr. Oz recommends staying active to prevent this fat build-up.
