Video: Sandusky Rambles Outside Courtroom

Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky made a rambling four-minute statement outside a courthouse on Friday after a pre-trial hearing.

Sandusky and attorney Joe Amendola appeared on the courthouse steps in Bellefonte, Pa., after a morning hearing about bail conditions and jury selection.

Sandusky didn’t proclaim his innocence but he did talk at length about people “turning on him” and his ability to feed biscuits his own dog from his porch.

Sandusky’s neighbors want him kept inside his own home until his May 2012 trial date.

“I have some people who will pour their heart and soul into defending me,” Sandusky said.

He said he was in court to support the motion made by Amendola to allow more family members to have contact with Sandusky.

Sandusky said he was “sensitive” that he couldn’t speak with his grandchildren.

“Our home has been open for 27 years to all kinds of people, who have stayed there. Hundreds of people who stayed there. More than that who have visited there. I have associated with thousands of young people over years,” he said.

“And now all of a sudden, because of allegations, and perceptions that have tried to have been created of me, now I can’t take our dog on my deck and throw out biscuits to him? Now all of a sudden these people turn on me? When they have been in my home with their kids, when they‘ve attended birthday parties, when they have been in that deck, when their kids have been playing in my yard and when their kids have been sled riding at our home. That is difficult for me to understand, to be honest.”

Sandusky faces dozens of child-abuse charges dating back to his time at Penn State and with the Second Mile charity group.

His trial starts on May 14th.
