Tips From A Busy Diet Buster

Posted:

We juggle work, home, and all sorts of other responsibilities, barely eating and not even sleeping. So why are we gaining so much weight?

Fox 29's Joyce Evans dug deep into the findings of a new study that exposes what's wrecking our diets.

Getting a decent meal in is a tough task for Bob Zienkowski, Radnor's new township manager.

"Sometimes unfortunately you don't reach for the right things," he says.

All kinds of snack machines became bob's best new friends as he constantly dashed between meetings

"I probably gained about 15 - 20 pounds," he said.

With long hours, less sleep and lots of stress, his diet was hopelessly wrecked.

Then he heard about a local community center's plan for a series of weight control programs and his weight loss challenge was born.

"I though now is the perfect time to do that and why not do it publicly."

Nutritionist Emma Fogt is part of bob's coaching team and bob is now coaching others.

"He's talking to people he's out there and letting them know what he's doing which is all of this."

Bob said the key is to "eat food that's good for you but eat it in portion control."

Portable containers is the key to portion control. It's planning and prep, especially containers that have screws on that don't leak.

So what to do when pack and go is not an option?

"If there's nothing but fast food around, think about some of the healthier choices like grilled chicken, salad they now have, apples bits and slices," he says.

And the vending machine doesn't have to be the enemy.

"It's easy to grab a little whole grain cracker, again a little fiber and protein really important, about 200 calories honestly."

His very public online challenge allows you to track bob's weight loss.

"I've lost 25 pounds in the process of eating right and exercise," he says, working out one hour for three days a week - at best.

"I hope to lose another 20 25 pounds by the end of May."

Still, that wasn't challenging enough for Bob or his fellow challengers.

"I made a donation of ten dollars per pound to the senior wellness center program, so they got a check for $250."

The American Lung And American Heart Associations are the next beneficiaries, judging from bob's ill-fitted clothing.

Bob lost another five pounds since we talked with him a few weeks ago and has only 20 pounds more to lose.
