RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Same-sex marriages could begin Thursday in Virginia, unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes. Attorneys representing a county clerk have asked the court to stay the decision by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The plaintiffs and others asked today that the ruling not be delayed and that the case be reviewed as quickly as possible.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A District of Columbia judge is approving the merger of one of the nation's oldest museums with two larger institutions in Washington. The ruling from Judge Robert Okun allows the Corcoran to merge the museum and its college into George Washington University and the National Gallery of Art.

ROME (AP) - Pope Francis says he wants to go to the United States next year. He's considering a three-city trip in September 2015: Philadelphia for a family rally, Washington to address Congress and New York to speak at the United Nations.

FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) - The National Zoo says a female red panda has been euthanized after suffering brain swelling associated with a microscopic parasite. The 7-year-old red panda named Shama died Saturday. She became well known at the zoo as the mate of Rusty. He escaped the National Zoo last year.
