TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Florida family of a woman slain during the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. The lawsuit on behalf of the family of Mary DeLorenzo Knight was filed Wednesday in Hillsborough County, Fla.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) - Officials from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia are launching an effort to help improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in the region. Local officials and safety advocates are gathering today at an intersection in Woodbridge where a local woman was struck and killed last year by a car while crossing the road in a crosswalk.

WASHINGTON (AP) - D.C. police have charged a man in a shooting that killed two men and injured a third. Police say 22-year-old Carlton Maurice Johnson of Washington was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder while armed in the deaths of 19-year-old Anthony Chase and 27-year-old Eric Leeper.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - The head of the beleaguered $3 billion project to extend Metro's Silver Line through Tysons Corner is resigning. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says project director Pat Nowakowski is leaving next month to take a job at another transit agency.
