Award winning News Anchor, Shawn Yancy co-anchors FOX 5 News at 5pm & 10pm and contributes to the Newsedge @ 6 and 11pm. Shawn joined the FOX 5 News team in September of 2001. Her second day on the job became her first big story in Washington: The September 11th terrorist attacks.
Shawn was awarded a 2007 Edward R. Murrow Award for an investigative series on asbestos at The National Institutes of Health. She was also awarded the Emmy for "Outstanding News Anchor" in Washington in 2006. Shawn's been honored with various Associated Press and Golden Quill awards for her reporting on breaking news.
Prior to joining Fox 5, Shawn was an anchor/reporter for WTAE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and an anchor for WKJG-TV, the NBC affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Shawn has spent years working with various youth and women's organizations. She's currently a board member for Dress for Success DC.
Shawn is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. And a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
In her spare time, Shawn enjoys reading, painting, interior decorating and spending time with her family. She also loves eating jelly belly jelly beans, sushi, and really spicy food (but not necessarily in that order). Shawn lives in Maryland with her husband and three sons.
