CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) - A Catonsville man has been charged with trying to kill his stepson. Baltimore County police say 62-year-old John Smith argued with the victim. Authorities say he followed him outside their home Tuesday evening and stabbed him once. The stepson is expected to make a full recovery.

BALTIMORE (AP) - The state appeals court has overturned the murder conviction and life sentence of a Baltimore police officer accused of killing his 22-year-old mistress in 1993. The court ruled that James Kulbicki's lawyers failed to conduct an adequate cross-examination of a ballistics expert on flaws in bullet analysis.

BALTIMORE (AP) - A Washington drug dealer who escaped from a western Maryland jail has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison. Prosecutors say Deandre Kelly pleaded guilty to drug offenses in D.C. in 2009 but remained on the run until 2011. He assaulted an officer and escaped following his arrest in Garrett County.

TIMONIUM, Md. (AP) - Gov. O'Malley and other Maryland officials will be announcing the state's latest cover crop enrollment figures today at the Maryland State Fair. The state's cover crop program gives grants to farmers who plant the crops immediately after the summer harvest.
