RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A defense witness says former first lady Maureen McDonnell often traveled the state promoting Virginia businesses. The testimony counters the notion that she gave special treatment to the dietary supplement company at the heart of her corruption trial. Former Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife are on trial on public corruption charges.

CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - Drivers who don't have E-ZPass will soon have fewer toll lanes to choose from in the Dulles Toll Road. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which operates the road, says it will convert 19 lanes into "E-ZPass only" lanes. The unattended lanes had previously accepted cash from drivers who had exact change.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington area's Metro transit authority has paid $4.2 million to settle a lawsuit that accused it of awarding a no-bid technology contract. Metro was accused of awarding a $14 million contract using federal grant money to Virginia-based Metaformers, Inc., without competitive bidding.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia students continue to do well on the ACT college admissions exam. The Virginia Department of Education reports that Virginia students scored an average of 22.6 on the test this year. That tops last year's score of 22.4 and is well above the national average of 21.
