(NewsCore) - A Miami Dolphins player was forced to call in his teammates Tuesday to help look for a diamond earring he had lost at practice, the Miami Herald reported.
Defensive end Kendall Langford spent nearly an hour with several other players and officials combing the grass with their hands and rakes for the 2.5-karat piece of jewelry, which could be worth more than $50,000.
"Forgot I had 'em in," he told reporters later, holding the earring that was missing its partner. "I've got a great group of guys out here helping me -- family-type guys."
Langford said he first noticed the earring missing about halfway through practice.
Defensive end Ryan Baker told the Palm Beach Post: ’I remember seeing it before practice, saying, `Wow, that’s a nice diamond.' Lots of guys come out here with them on."
Coach Tony Sparano said he has never lost an earring: "I can't afford them."
After temporarily abandoning the search, Langford said: ’I’m going to go to meetings and then come back out here."
He declined to say how much the earring cost.
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft after playing college football at Hampton University in Virginia.
