(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - The Internet is going hog-wild over a piglet spared from slaughter and hamming it up as Facebook's newest cyber-celebrity, according to Great Britain's Telegraph .
The story of this real-life "Babe" began in the Shetland Isles, where Lowrie, the runt of the litter, was hand-reared by his owner, Heather Davidson.
"He thinks he rules the roost. He squeals a lot if you pick him up," Davidson told The Telegraph.
She decided to start Lowrie's Facebook page "for a laugh" and, lo and behold, was star was born. Lowrie has about 4,000 fans. Which led Davidson to save Lowrie's bacon and adopt him.
Davidson said "she could never eat him now."
"He was bred for meat but I'm not going to turn him into bacon now," she added. " I'm worried I'd get death threats. We'll make an exception for once and keep him."
Now that Lowrie has gone from main course to main attraction, Davidson told The Telegraph, "If he hears the microwave he comes running because he knows he'll get fed and he nibbles on people's feet to get attention."
The cinematic "Babe" wanted to be a sheepdog; Lowrie has a full life just being Lowrie. When the piglet isn't busy entertaining his family, Lowrie's giving interviews , offering tips on getting more Facebook fans and corresponding with his many admirers.
