Professional soccer player Charlie Davies, 23, has been released from the hospital after being injured in a car accident in October.
In a statement on the Washington Hospital Center web site Davies says, “I would like to take the time to thank everyone who has dealt with me in the Hospital Center and NRH for really putting in the time to help me get better as a person and as an athlete. I continue to improve every day and I look forward to getting back on my feet and attacking rehabilitation. Thank you for everyone’s support, it really means a lot to me.”
Davies was injured on October 13, 2009 when the car he was riding in was involved in the serious crash, which happened around 3:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway at Boundary Channel Drive, south of the Memorial Bridge.
22-year-old Ashley Roberta of Phoenix, Maryland was killed in the accident.
Davies underwent several surgeries at Washington Hospital Center and was later transferred to National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in D.C.
James DeBritz, MD, director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Washington Hospital Center, treated Davies and said, “Charlie faces a long recovery from his orthopaedic injuries. It will take time and extensive physical therapy for his bones and soft tissue to heal. However, his overall health, age and positive attitude should help him to have a good outcome.”
The investigation of the accident that injured Davies is stil under investigation. His attorney's say they have told Davies "not to discuss the matter."
Davies will continue his rehabilitation with the U.S. National Team medical staff.
Davies plays for the U.S. National Team and FC Sochaux of France’s Ligue 1.
