Manassas police have arrested 49-year-old Kevin Garfield Ricks, a teacher at Osbourn High School, and charged him with aggravated sexual battery and two counts of indecent liberties while in a supervisory position.
School officials sent a letter home with students Friday informing parents that Ricks was immediately suspended and placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The alleged victim was a 16-year-old male, who used to be a student at Osbourn high. Police say the offenses occurred in a residence in Manassas.
Ricks has a permanent address in Federalsburg, Maryland on the eastern shore, but is believed to have lived in Manassas during the week.
Students tell Fox 5 that Ricks was a popular teacher, who was in charge of Travel Club and had a lot of contact with foreign exchange students.
Counselors are being provided for any students who feel the need to talk to one. Police say they don't know if there are other victims.
