Husband of Falls Church City Council Member Arrested

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - It is a shocking arrest in Falls Church. Michael Gardner, the husband of City Council Member and former Mayor Robin Gardner, was arrested for incidents police say happened at the family home.

The City of Falls Church issued a statement saying that Michael Gardner was arrested and charged with two felony counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of object sexual penetration.

Falls Church authorities were contacted by the female victims who were at home and told officers that Gardner had inappropriate physical contact with them. The statement says after police interviewed the victims who were at home, they obtained search warrants for DNA.

FOX 5 attempted to speak with someone at the Gardner home, but no one came to the door. Our phone call to the home was not returned.

Robin Gardner has been on the Falls Church Council since 2000. She served as Mayor of Falls Church from 2006 to 2010.

Michael Gardner is well known in the community. He writes a column for the Falls Church News-Press and is the former Chairman of the Falls Church City Democratic Committee.
