WASHINGTON - On Capitol Hill, a final vote is expected in the senate later this morning to extend jobless benefits to more than 2 million Americans who can’t find work.
A vote yesterday broke a Republican filibuster that had been holding up the extension bill.
Republicans say they are in favor of extending jobless benefits, but they want Democrats to pay for them by making other budget cuts, not expanding the deficit.
If the bill passes in the senate, it then goes to the house for a final vote, and President Obama will be expected to sign it into law by the end of the week.
For more on the jobless benefits bill, we are joined by Stephen Farnsworth of George Mason University.
