WASHINGTON - The D.C. Council plans to continue considering a bill that would allow same-sex marriage in the nation's capital.

More than 150 people are expected to testify before the council on Monday. It will be the second of two public hearings on the legislation.

Last month, D.C. Council member David Catania -- one of two openly gay members of the council -- introduced the measure to legalize gay marriage in the city. Nine of 12 council members have signed on as co-sponsors of the bill.

In the previous hearing, more than 100 people expressed their views on the matter. Opponents have asked the D.C. Board of Elections to put the issue on next year's ballot.
