WASHINGTON, D.C. - Organizers of last week's Twestival for Twitter users say their worldwide event was a shining success.

The official Twestival site says the Twitter community raised more than $250,000 for charity:water, which helps bring clean water to those living without it. That money will fund 55 water projects in Ethiopia, Uganda, and India, and provide clean water for just over 17,000 people.

The first well funded by Twestival will be drilled in Ethiopia at the beginning of April. The funds will be distributed evenly amongst the three countries.

Twestival was held February 12, 2009 in 202 cities around the world, including Washington, D.C. Organizers say a total of 10,000 people attended, and close to 1,000 volunteers helped to organize it.
