NEW YORK - In New York City, more than two thousand people formed a moving hour glass in a symbolic gesture to show the earth is running out of time.
The event was held in central park to kick off Climate Week.
A ticking sound was played as a warning for lawmakers worldwide.
The so-called "Human Countdown" was the flagship event to kick off a series of similar events around the world.
"Climate Week NYC" coincides with senate meetings at which climate issues will be addressed.
Congressional hearings will also be focusing attention on environmental laws.
Environmental laws will be discussed at the U.N. Climate Change Conference to be held in Copenhagen in December.
