Police are investigating after a robbery suspect was shot by the owner of a convenience store in Fort Washington, Maryland during a robbery attempt on Tuesday night.

It happened at the Food Zone, which is located in the 12500 block of Livingston Road, just before 9:30 p.m.

FOX 5 has learned that two suspects came into the store wearing masks, and were attempting to rob it. Investigators say the owner of the store was inside, and the store is equipped with security glass.

Police say one of the suspects tried to reach inside the glass to rob the store, but the owner of the store hit the man in the hand, knocking away his gun. Then, investigators say, the store owner shot the man. Witnesses said the man was killed, but police have not confirmed that report yet.

Another store employee at the scene told FOX 5 this is not the first time someone has tried to rob the store. In fact, she said, this is this the third time, and after the second time, the security glass was installed.
