WASHINGTON - A survey of downtown Baltimore this weekend could bring the city closer to landing a high-profile Grand Prix race.
The survey to determine whether the city must modify any of the roads along the likely route will be conducted Saturday. Parking will be prohibited along certain streets in the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards areas between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for the aerial and ground survey.
Baltimore Racing Development chief executive Jay Davidson says organizers envision a three- to four-day Indy Racing League event in August 2011 with multiple races, including a main race with cars traveling up to 200 mph, that would continue annually for at least five years. Davidson hopes to wrap up an agreement with the city this month and the league's decision on giving Baltimore a franchise could come within weeks.
