GAITHERSBURG, Md. - The city of Gaithersburg is moving forward with a crime camera program funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

City officials are currently getting pricing bids on a system of six cameras that would be placed in some of the busiest areas for pedestrians such as the Olde Towne section of the Gaithersburg.

Community Services Officer Dan Lane said the cameras will not have the ability to zoom into citizens, follow them or record audio.

"The cameras would allow us to go back and review recorded footage of public areas after a crime occurs as an added investigative tool," said Lane.

City officials are not committing to a timeframe for installation of the cameras.
