CLARKSVILLE, Md. - Howard County police say two men have been charged for a shooting at a Halloween party that left one man dead and another wounded.
Police say two others were injured at the party in Columbia early Sunday, but investigators don't believe the injuries were related to the shooting.
Police say 22-year-old Devin O'Brian Dixon of Elkridge has been charged with the murder of Aaron Brice and the attempted murder of Nathaniel Quick. Police say Quick may be paralyzed as a result of the shooting.
Police say 21-year-old Dean Schroyer, also of Elkridge, drove the car in which the two fled and has been charged as an accessory. And police say he also faces a drug charge for about three pounds of marijuana found at his home.
Howard County Police say more than 100 people were inside a $1.5 million Clarksville home when someone opened fire during a Halloween Party.
Around 1:15 am, police found 19 year old Aaron Thomas Brice of Silver Spring shot to death on the driveway of the Manorstone Lane home.
Brice's father, Tony Brice, says his son had recently graduated from James Hubert Blake High School. "He was the life of the party, didn't have a bad bone in him at all. He was working hard at Giant Food Stores as a cashier to prepare himself to go to college in January to go into criminal justice."
Police also found 22 year-old Nathaniel Quick of Columbia shot in the basement.
Quick's grandparents, who declined to give their names, came to the scene to speak with investigators and say he's now paralyzed from the waist down.
"He was shot in the back," his grandfather says.
Late Sunday, police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn says police think "some sort of argument or altercation broke out" during the party. Wristbands littered the yard and police are trying to determine if people paid to party inside a home that's been in trouble before.
"We have been to this residence in the past," Llewellyn says. "It is our understanding that the homeowner rented out the house for the purposes of having this party and we believe this is not the first time this occurred. We were called to the same location in June for a similar type incident where an altercation broke out."
When a 22 year-old man from Laurel came to pick up his car from in front of the home, he declined to give his name, but said the party was made up of mostly college-age students. Like many others, he says "I ran out the back when they yelled gun."
Police say even thought it was a Halloween party; they do not need to contend with masks and other costumes, as most attendees were wearing street clothes.
But with so many in attendance, police could end up interviewing more than one-hundred witnesses.
Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information and ask anyone who attended the party to contact them, hoping even the smallest detail with help detectives solve this murder.
