WASHINGTON - A Virginia woman has been arrested again for attacking another painting at the National Gallery of Art.
Susan Burns, 53, of Arlington, Va., returned to the museum on August 5 and slammed a Henry Matisse oil painting against a wall three times and damaging the artwork’s original frame, according to The Smoking Gun.
“The Plumed Hat” oil painting is valued at $2.5 million, according to police.
Burns has been charged with unlawful entry, destruction of property, misdemeanor contempt and attempted second-degree theft.
Back in April, Burns was arrested for attempting to rip a Paul Gauguin painting from a wall at the National Gallery of Art.
Witnesses say she screamed and yelled "This is evil,” and used her fist to punch the painting, which was protected by plexiglass.
The Gauguin painting, “Two Tahitian Women,” which depicts two bare-breasted women, was not damaged and was put back on display a few days later. The painting is valued at an estimated $80 million.
According to charging documents in that incident, an investigator told Burns her rights and asked why she had tried to remove the painting.
"I feel that Gauguin is evil. He has nudity and is bad for the children. He has two women in the painting and it's very homosexual. I was trying to remove it. I think it should be burned," according to the documents.
Burns also said: "I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you."
