SILVER SPRING, Md. - Police in Montgomery County say there's been a shooting outside a gym near the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, and the search is on for the suspects.
It happened just before 6 p.m. on a sidewalk in front of the Gold's Gym, which is located at 8661 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. That's near the City Place Mall and the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center.
Police tell FOX 5 that a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg during a robbery attempt, but nothing was taken and the victim was able to fight the suspects off. They then got away from the scene. The victim was leaving the gym when he was shot in the leg above his knee, and he was later taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are actively searching the downtown Silver Spring area for the gunmen. The first suspect is described as a black man who is about 6 feet tall and 130 pounds. He is bald with a beard and side burns, and he was last seen wearing a puffy coat, white t-shirt and he was armed with a handgun.
The second suspect is described as a black man who is clean shaven and was wearing a hat with a gray hooded sweatshirt. He has a tear-drop tattoo on his face.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call police at (301) 565-5835.
