Rescuers have evacuated several shops because of the threat of a building collapse in southeast Washington.
D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says construction work was under way at a row of buildings in the 100 block of 15th Street SE, on Friday when the walls started to crack and separate. The saturated ground after recent rains may be a factor.
Piringer says no one is injured.
Rescue crews have evacuated several nearby businesses as a precaution.
