WASHINGTON - D.C. Police say they've caught an escaped inmate who fled from custody while being transported to the United Medical Center-- formerly Greater Southeast Hospital-- for medical treatment on Thursday.
Officials say Terrance Moore managed to escape shortly before 9:00 a.m. in Southeast Washington, D.C. They say he was in full restraints while he was being transported, but was not in his restraints at the time of his escape. They say they are investigating how he was able to remove his restraints.
Just after 7 p.m., Moore was apprehended by officers in the vicinity of Wheeler Road and 10th Place SE, where he was arrested without incident. FOX 5's Wisdom Martin says he was sleeping in a vehicle in the back yard of a home when he was found.
It was first thought that Moore entered a vehicle in the area. However, officers say he fled on foot.
Police placed several schools in the area under lockdown as they searched for Moore. According to a D.C. Schools spokesperson the following schools were lockdown for a time, and no one allowed was to enter or exit the school: Ferebee-Hope, Turner@Green, M.C. Terrell/McGogney ES.
Moore had been housed at the Correctional Treatment Facility as a pre-trial inmate facing charges of assault with intent to kill and is a resident of Washington D.C.
