Police in Maryland say a Montgomery County police officer hit and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 295 near the state line on Wednesday night.
It happened at I-295 and I-495 near the Maryland-DC state line. Investigators say a Montgomery County police officer was behind the wheel of the striking vehicle, and the pedestrian died of injuries sustained in the accident. The victim's identity has not been released.
According to investigators, the officer involved in the accident is a 20-year veteran investigator.
The northbound lanes of I-295 were shut down as a result of the accident, and two southbound lanes were also closed to traffic late Wednesday night.
