There's more news on D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's caught-on-tape biking snafu. He's a competitive triathlete, and it turns out his rides on the Clara Barton Parkway with a police escort managing traffic were a violation of federal law.
U.S. Park Police spokesman Sergeant David Schlosser says riding a bike on the Clara Barton Parkway is a violation of the code of federal regulations. The penalty for violations is a $70 fine, plus $25 in court costs.
Mayor Fenty told reporters he didn't know bicycling on the Clara Barton Parkway was prohibited. He says he'll do everything possible to make traffic flow better when he's riding in the future and to make sure everyone is as safe as humanly possible.
Fenty is apparently off the hook-- for the moment. Sergeant Schlosser says no Park Police officer saw Fenty violating the law, so they can't cite him.
