    Mattie Stepanek accomplished more in his nearly fourteen years than most of us will in a lifetime.

    He was a bestselling author, and the national goodwill ambassador for the muscular dystrophy association. During his life, he was able to become friends with his personal heroes.

    Now, for the first time, his life story is revealed through the eyes of his closest hero and best friend…his mother.

    FOX 5’s Tony Perkins recently spent some time with Jeni Stepanek learning about her new book, "Messenger: The Legacy Of Mattie J.T. Stepanek And Heartsongs".

    The Muscular Dystrophy Association is having their 7th annual Heartsongs Gala this weekend to honor the late poet and peacemaker, Mattie Stepanek. Mattie died in 2004 at the age of 13 from a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
