Man Protests on Van in Northwest DC

The intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and K Street NW was closed Tuesday after a man protesting an injustice by the government threw two Molotov cocktails.

Just before 2 p.m., witnesses say the man pulled into the intersection, got out of his van and lit two fire bombs before throwing them into the street. He then climbed on top of the van and unfurled his sign.

As dozens gathered to watch, police asked him to step down. He refused, telling officers they would have to come up after him.

For several minutes he just stood there as onlookers took pictures with their cell phones and Blackberrys.

A professionally-made sign attached to the van said 'My $200 Million Dollars'. People shouted out to him.

The man said the government owes him $200,000,000. FOX 5's Paul Wagner shouted several questions at the man during the situation. The man yelled back that the government owes him money for "harassment," and he also said his name was James Kil.

At one point, it turned somewhat comical as the protester folded up his sign and looked like he was getting down. The crowd called out for more.

Within minutes, with the help of a fire department step ladder, police had the man in custody. He offered no resistance.

As officers took him off in cuffs, a bomb-sniffing dog reacted to the debris left in the street from the spent Molotov cocktail. That's when the bomb squad moved in.

Police later identified the man as Kyung Song Kil. He remained in jail late Tuesday night.
