WASHINGTON D.C. - A woman who opened her front door to a girl she heard crying for help was beaten and robbed by two attackers who forced their way into her northwest D.C. home late Friday night.
It began about 2:30 a.m., in the historic Ledroit Park neighborhood in northwest D.C. Elizabeth Samuel was home alone, sleeping, when she heard a knock at the door. She looked out and saw a girl who appeared to be in trouble.
When she opened the door, the girl and two armed men entered the house.
Samuel was thrown to the floor, her wrists bound and mouth duct taped. After enduring a half-hour of terror, her husband came home and fought the attackers who were armed with pistols. He took on the attackers armed with a wine bottle. Unfortunately he was pistol whipped from behind knocking him to the ground rendering him out of commission.
The suspects spent the next 30 minutes drinking and smoking inside the house before leaving with numerous items.
Police urge residents to be on alert and report any suspicious behavior immediately. In addition, always use the utmost caution when answering your door to strangers, no matter what time of day.
